I use regular paper, and white wood glue, it gives the joint a nice solid feel when dry and makes them solid.
I glue the bases to cardboard and then darker their edge with a black sharpie.
Not much you can mess up and those models are easy to built, it's simply cutting them out (scissor or x-acto knife), folding them (crease out all folds before glueing), and glue them togheter.
for u.s. people elmers glue is one they recommend a lot too.
Tools are not much, 1 brush, 1 little spatula to apply glue (depending on glue.) and scissors or x-acto knives.
Print out 1 sheet, not thousand at once and if you can choose between inkjet or laser, do use the inkjet (Creases looks better inkjet.)
Myriad of ways to papercraft, but that's my method so hope it helps and inspires you.
