Paper Stars general

No.515222 ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
With the old thread gone it seems appropriate to begin anew. Feel free to post your collections, your works in progress, or your star hordes!

This was my anniversary present to my girlfriend. It was my first time ever doing stars, and they didn't come out as clean as I would've liked. I used three packs of star paper I picked up from a hobby store. I also cut up some receipts and tickets from dates we'd been on and folded those. It took around fifteen hours total. I threw in some larger construction ones to fill up the box which I regret. they were too large, poorly done, and clashed with the rest. I had an old necklace box which I repurposed and tied with a red ribbon.

Stiffening and reinforcing

No.526771 ViewReplyOriginalReport
So I've been doing paper craft for all of a week and a half. I've got this paper sword model (see pdf) that I think came out ok. But it's flimsy as all hell even with 65lb card stock. I've been looking at ways to harden it up and I've seen several mentioned but nothing very well explained. I'm here to ask about these methods.

The first I heard about was a mixture of white glue and water. But I tried that on a test paper and it causes warping. Same with straight mod podge.

I've heard that you can spray it with acrylic sealer and then use layers of the mod podge to make it tough, so thats what I'm considering doing.

I've also heard about using bondo or other resins; but there are tons of types of resin and I'm not sure which is the best to use for a good clear coat, since this is a colored model thing, rather then a printed pepakura model. I don't want the images and coloring to get hopelessly distorted or muddled.

Some advise from more experienced people would be great.

Does anyone have any Shin Tanaka templates? I've been hunting around for some of his older ones, but most links that I find are dead.

Modular Origami

No.524227 ViewReplyOriginalReport
So I'm trying to make a set of dice as a birthday gift for a friend who loves D&D. I've found a bunch of models already, but I have yet to find a good one for a d10. Anyone have a pattern that isn't just a platonic solid?

Also, general sonobe/kusudama/modular origami thread.
