Life Advice General : Mid-Youth Crisis Edition

No.32816633 ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey /fit/, I've been struggling for quite some time now, and figured it's time to reach out to someone. I have a limited group of friends, many of whom have moved out of province, or just simply wouldn't be able to relate.

Lately I'm finding myself profoundly depressed and anxious about my life. I'm a 21 year old male, and my life has kind of been a rollercoaster.

I joined the Army Reserve out of high school, did all of my training, and that kept me busy and away from home for some time. I've also worked on the other side of my country a number of times, and now I find myself living with a bro and I'm planning on going to university in the fall.

I just don't feel as good about my life as I once did. I've sustained a number of injuries from weightlifting, including a herniated disc. While I can work around it (still squatting, deadlifting is limited) I find I'm getting worn down in other areas too. My shoulders as of late have been giving me problems. Just a month ago I could bench press 315x5 with ease, and now I struggle with it or I don't have the courage to go as heavy with my shoulders. It just leaves me depressed and ill at ease with myself. I'm going to school in the fall as aforementioned, I've decided to take a Foods & Nutrition/Kinesiology, as it’s a field that I would enjoy studying, but also one with a practical application and career choices when I graduate. I have no doubt I can handle university, I was a gifted high school student, always achieving good grades in advanced curriculum. I just stopped giving a shit towards the end of my junior/beginning of my senior year as I struggled with manic depression, but weightlifting helped me tremendously (just not in the academic sense unfortunately).

Does lifting turn you into a man...? let me explain

am 19 and I genuinly believe I had too much estrogen and maybe not enough test during puberty , I was late bloomer but it's obviously that my body structure resembles that of a female (not fully, but a decent amount) even though I am tall. Although I read that lack of test during puberty actually results in elongated thin feminine bones

I have longer slender legs with fat on my ass.. It doesn't match my upper body

Anyways, I read people saying that lifting at my age-ish just overall made their body manlier (apart from added mass obviously) like the ribcage grows and you just get manlier, the worst part is my pencil neck (14 inches..) and my defined but SMALL jaw, did any of you "man up" after 19? pls explain
