the discovery of Kulindadromeus strongly suggested that all dinosaurs will be covered in protofeathers.
the recent study of skin samples nicely demonstrates that either most dinosaurs secondarily lost those feathers or that the 'protofeather' evolved separately at least twice.
it's also a reminder to those that trust phylogenetic bracketing that it doesn't work if your phylogeny is wrong or you don't take into account evolution.
also that guessing doesn't trump actual evidence.
